It started with a question.
Why can’t a baby play mat be both safe and beautiful?
The question that started it all.
When our founder Alice became a new parent, she found herself standing in a baby store, staring at a wall of play mats. Bright primary colors. Cartoon animals. Foam puzzles with letters that pop out and become choking hazards. Every option seemed to say: your home doesn’t matter anymore — you have a baby now.
Alice didn’t buy a mat that day. Instead, she went home and started designing one herself. A play mat that was genuinely safe — OEKO-TEX certified, SGS tested, free of everything you don’t want near a baby’s skin. But also one that looked like it belonged in the living room we’d spent years making ours.
That became Yay Mats.

Every product we make still starts with the same question: is this safe enough for our own kids, and beautiful enough for the home we want to live in? If the answer isn’t yes to both, it doesn’t ship.
